When everything down to lose or gain weight, most people turn to the weight scales to determine whether they should lose or gain to have the weight or shape desire. However, health experts said weight alone is not a clear indicator of good health because it does not distinguish between pounds that come from body fat and those that come from lean body mass or muscle. Being over fat and overweight, is not the same. Overweight means simply an excess of total body weight based on the average population for the heights and body frame sizes. On the other hand, obesity is defined as excess body fat, regardless of weight. What should consider, say scientists, to determine our fitness, is to know your body fat.

People are biochemical individuals and react differently to food? This is why one diet may work for your friend but you do not. You should determine what the best combination of foods for body. Every your body is unique. Every body needs and processes different foods at different levels of performance. The key to successful weight release is based on finding what food plan is right for their unique body, food and what your body responds positively to keep you at a healthy weight without dieting and without constant pain and feeling deprived.

People who diet without exercising often get fatter with time. Although your weight may initially reduce dieting, such weight loss consists mostly of water and muscle. When the weight returns, returns as fat. To avoid thicker over time, increase your metabolism to exercise regularly. Walking is one of the best exercises for strengthening bones, controlling weight, toning the leg muscles, maintaining good posture and improving positive self-concept. To lose weight, it is important to walk for time than speed. Walking longer workouts at moderate rates of producers with less soreness – main part more miles and more fat worked off on a regular basis. High intensity walks on alternate days to help set up a system. But in a walking, weight-loss program, not to walk an hour every day as some people would have you believe.

Remember that body fat is a percentage of your total weight, so even slender people can have high levels of hazardous fat.

Here body is three ways to measure body fat you:

1. Home Body Fat Scales – Body fat scales claim to measure body fat quickly and easily. These body fat scales use the Bioelectrical Impedance method to measure your body giant tweezers. These are used to keep your skin folds at different points in your body and measure the thickness. The measurements are compared with standard values for persons of age and gender you to give you your estimated body fat.

2. Hydrostatic Weighing – This is just a fancy term for underwater weighing. Sitting on a scale inside a tank and blow out as much air as you can. You are dunked underwater, where blow-out even more air. Since fat is lighter than water, the more fat you have, the more you will float. The scale measures underwater weight to figure out body density. The margin of error is about 2-3%, but the accuracy depends on the amount of air removed. We can blow it all out or not be as accurate. This is a difficult way to measure body fat, because it can be uncomfortable and even scary to be dunked underwater not air the old lungs.

I come across individuals all the time that tell me they have followed a quick weight loss diet, but don’t know if it worked or not.

What do you mean you don’t know if it worked or not?

Did you lose weight? Did your body fat percentage decrease? You have to know if it worked or not.

I then ask them if they took any measurements and body fat calculations at the beginning of the quick weight loss diet.

Usually the answer is no.

So I guess they are really telling the truth about not knowing if they lost any weight or not. Generally they say they got on the body fat scale in the beginning and then weighed themselves at the end.

The scale can give you some answers, but it won’t tell you the whole story on whether or not your quick weight loss diet is successful. It can also give you plenty of false numbers along the way that will discourage your efforts.

To be successful at fast weight loss you need to be obviously eating properly, but also strength training. Strength training produces lean body mass which is weight on the scale, but looks great on your body and is key to keeping the fat off once you have lost it.

If I only used the scale as my measuring tool and I lost 10 pounds of fat and gained 5 pounds of lean muscle the scale would tell me that I only lost 5 pounds.

I would think that I failed.

If I took before measurements, pictures and body fat calculations I would know that I lost 8% body fat, 4 inches off my waist and gained 5 pounds of lean body mass.

I now know that my quick weight loss diet was successful. The scale didn’t tell me those numbers.

Before you start any exercise or quick weight loss diet program make sure that you not only take before pictures, but you also find out what your body fat percentage is and your circumference measurements.

This way you have all the evaluative tools to tell you if a program is successful or not. It will also tell you if you need to modify that program so that you see better and quicker results.

I advise those looking to follow a quick weight loss diet program to start with all these baseline measurements and re-take them every 2-3 weeks to re-evaluate your progress. This will ensure that you know quickly if you need to modify anything with your exercise or diet program so that you can garner more successful weight loss.

Don’t just assume a quick weight loss diet program is going to work. You have to measure the results and make modifications to suit you individually. This is the way to guarantee successful weight loss.

In order to train your cardiac muscle effectively, you must learn how to train properly with a heart rate monitor. You can keep track of how effective your cardiovascular workout is with a device that instantly detects your pulse rate. Your pulse is how fast your cardiovascular system is working. A cardiac monitoring tool will assist you in maintaining your ideal training scale.

To get the most benefit from your cardiovascular workouts, you need to know where your pulse rate should be while doing the exercises. You should reach your target training pace while doing aerobic exercises. When you monitor your heartbeats per minute with an electronic device, you can accurately predict when you have reached that speed.

Your target training scale depends on several factors. It is primarily based on your age. A person in his twenties would have a target training scale between 150 and 130 beats per minute. A person in his forties would have a target training scale ranging between 110 and 90 beats a minute.

For every twenty years you age, your ideal pulse scale will drop by twenty contractions a minute. The cardiac muscle of a young child contracts almost 200 times a minute when he is running.

Your ideal pulse scale is a general guideline. Where you fall in your age scale is strongly influenced by how healthy your cardiovascular system is. If you are a veteran exerciser, you will have a stronger cardiovascular system that will not need to work as hard. If you are just beginning your first exercise program, your heart will contract more often every minute.

When you are new to working out, you should not try to go too fast to strengthen your cardiovascular system. Trying to sustain a fast pace can result in breathing problems or stop your heart. If you ignore how quickly your heart is contracting, you will feel winded and ill while exercising.

Not making your cardiac muscle work hard enough is almost as bad as working it too hard. If you do not speed up your cardiovascular pace sufficiently during aerobic exercise, you will not fully benefit from it. If you keep track of your pulse with a monitor, you can quickly tell if you need to exercise harder to stay in your ideal pulse scale.

You can try to check your cardiac muscle contraction speed at your carotid artery or on your wrist while you are working out. It can be difficult to find your pulse and count the beats while exercising. To instantly access your cardiac muscle contraction rate, use a device that does it for you. When you can see a digital readout of your pulse, you can quickly modify your workout if need be to maintain it in the ideal training pace. Knowing how to train properly with a heart rate monitor will help you get the most out of every workout.

Digital scales are electronic devices used to measure weight. Digital scales come in a variety of sizes and colours and are made from a variety of materials. Digital scales differ from traditional scales because they function based on the principle of load cell technology in which electronic load cells sense the weight of objects under certain conditions.

Once the weight is calculated it is transferred to digital or electronic signals and then displayed in a digital format. They are available in different models, brands, sizes, and shapes, and usually come with batteries as well as calibration weights, scale pads, and trays. Digital scales, like every other type of product, vary in prices and quality.

There are various types of digital scales available on the market. Digital scales are classified based on how they are used. Nevertheless, scales of one type can be used for other purposes as well. The most popular types of digital scales are bathroom, kitchen or food, postal, point of scale, pocket size and laboratory digital scales. Recently, scales have been taken to the next level and are able to make other calculations aside from weight. These scales are referred to as smart scales and can calculate calories and other nutritional information.

In general, kitchen food, diet, and nutritional scales are used to calculate the amount of food one consumes and allow, therefore, the calculation of the caloric intake. These types of digital scales are used by anyone who watches what and how much they eat and vary sizes, detail and of course price. These types of digital scales accompany other technological nutrition calculating tools.

Bathroom digital scales are the ones used to measure the weight of someone’s body. They are the evolutionary equivalent of the traditional bathroom scale and are used to get exact information of someone’s body weight. These types of scales are referred to as bathroom scales because they are most often kept in the bathroom of a home.

Postal scales are used to weigh small to medium sized objects and are referred to as ‘postal’ because they are widely used at post offices to weight mail and parcels. Most digital postage scales available on the market are programmed in a way that calculates the exact postage required to mail a certain size and weight object to a particular destination. They are ‘smart’ scales, just like some digital food scales. in a way that the scales are programmed with postal rate information. This helps the scales to adjust rates each time the value changes and to display the right amount for postal services.

Sometimes called a cardiac monitor, a heart monitor is an electronic device that is used to continuously track your heart rate. Using this information you can determine the target heart rate at which you will maximize the cardiac benefits from your exercise. There are more complex versions of heart monitors which physicians use to detect any signs of deterioration in your heart functioning and make the necessary adjustments immediately.

Types of Heart Monitors

Today a wide range of heart rate monitors are produced – designed to cater for the specific requirements of different types of individuals.

Some heart monitors are primarily designed for weight loss programs – allowing the person to keep close monitoring of their heart rate during exercise and dieting to ensure they are not pushing their weight loss regime too hard.

Other kinds of heart rate monitors are designed for use by athletes in training and for people regularly involved in fitness programs.

Most heart rate monitors operate with a battery and emit wireless/electromagnetic waves.

Most personal use heart rate monitors can be portable – such as having the monitor fixed to your body by a strap and the display on your wrist – and not interfere with your movements, particularly if you are exercising.

Other types are built into standard exercise equipment like treadmills and exercise bicycles. In these situations you can read your heart rate by holding on to the handle of the equipment and checking the displayed result.

Selecting Your Suitable Heart Rate Monitor

Monitors with Chest Straps:

Heart monitors that come with chest straps are usually the most accurate. You fix the chest strap around your chest, a few centimeters below your breast. Fixed into the strap is the device which can detect the electrical activity of your heart and transmit that to the display – the same process as your physician uses when you are hooked up to an ECG machine. While, for most people, the simplest form of display straps to your wrist like a watch. There are some heart rate monitors which provide their results as an audio message through earphones;

Finger tip monitors:

An alternative are those heart rate monitors which fit over your finger tip, and are usually connected by a wire to a display screen. These are not only generally less accurate than the chest strap type, but are in no way as convenient in terms of their portability.

Advanced Features of Heart Monitor

The basic, lower-end heart rate monitors usually display only your heart rate and some show your elapsed exercise time as well. This does not provide you with sufficient information you will need if you are trying to maximize the benefits of your exercise. The models in the higher end range provide a range of additional features but these come at a price.

Some of the additional features available are:

• heart rate zone alarms – which sound a buzzer alert if your heart rate begins to fall outside the target zone rate you have set;

• timers – which act like stop watches and alarm clocks;

• some monitors even calculate the number of calories you have burned – calculated on your heart rate and the time you have been exercising.

Should You Buy a Heart Rate Monitor?

Heart rate monitors can be expensive, particularly if you want to buy one of the high-end models with all those advanced features. If you decide to buy one of the cheaper, basic heart rate monitors you should be aware that, like any cheaper electronic equipment, some of those cheaper models may be of such poor quality that they are only providing you with inaccurate information about your heart rate.

Most people would typically ask, why do I need a Digital Pedometer? Since I am already exercising by walking or jogging everyday, I had achieved my daily activity needs. Well, the purpose of a Pedometer is essentially to measure your activity level by specific measurement of steps and miles. By doing so, you can set specific goals for yourself and become more active as you continue to work towards your goal everyday.

If you are planning for a long-term fitness program (eg. weight losing, fitness or wellness program), a Digital Pedometer will be worth the small investment since you can motivate yourself to be more active on a daily basis. You can get a simple Step Counter Pedometer for a start which costs between $10 – $20 only.

If you are a beginner to Pedometer, and have no absolute idea which type is suitable for you, I would recommend that you go for one that is simple, reliable yet cost efficient. A simple Pedometer is also known as a step counter, only does step counting exclusively. It is perfect for beginners like you who focus a lot on the number of steps (10,000 steps) per day.

A step counter will also be ideal as it’s primary function is only to count steps. Hence it will be more reliable in results and durable compared to other types of Pedometer which come with many complex functions. The cost of a step counter will typically be cheaper too.

If you purchase a Pedometer that has a lot of energy consuming accessories eg. FM radio, talking function, back light etc, you will expect a much shorter battery life. Hence, to avoid changing of battery frequently, as a beginner, you should opt of a simple step counter.

Before getting a Pedometer, you should consider carefully why do you need one. Make sure you understand how can one help you before you invest your money.

In today’s world, we see a lot of people involved in exercise and diet plans to become slim & trim and to live a healthy life. But in real life it has been found that most of them do not stick to their scheduled health and fitness program, shortly they lose their enthusiasm and come back to their old routine.

Those who plan their health and fitness plan themselves and start following home fitness program fall under this category. The real problem lies somewhere else. The real problem is that such people do not follow the appropriate program in right perspective. For a perfect plan for health and diet it is not important that what program you are following. The main aspect is to design a well planned strategy. To accomplish you ambitious goal you are required to strictly follow the well designed plan under professinal guidance.

The key requirement of your diet, health and fitness program is discipline. You just can not expect to succeed without proper direction and determination. Whether you start your fitness journey at home or at a gym, this is applicable everywhere. Therefore, if you follow inconsistant and unfocused approach this will lead to nowhere. You will end up in confusion that what you are doing and what will you get.

There will also be another disadvantage that you start over expecting the results. The people who start a new health and fitness program fall under this category. It has been found that the people who set over expectations and when they found that their achievement is not up to the mark, they get disappointed and frustrated. If you are planning to start your home fitness program at home then my suggession is that there is no need to buy any exercise equipment. We feel bored by using the same exercise equipment time and again. After using it for some time we try to avoid it and find that we again start gaining weight and accomulating fat.

My first suggession is don’t try to find excuses to eat your each and every favorite dish. The intake of food is an important factor in bringing the desired results. The exercise equipment should not be placed in the end corner of your home where nobody likes to go. However, a home health and fitness program is more advantageous than joining a fitness centre but an effective planning and determination are the key requirements to achieve desired results.

To live a healthy and fit life, you should go for a long-term plan. So, your home fitness plan should not be short-term but it should be a long-term planning and you should strive to achieve your health and fitness goal.

The quantum of food intake should be included in your overall strategy.

You are also required to plan for your rest period. You should also make a chart for your daily or weekly workout plans. Maintain a progress report, that can help you to determine the level of achievement against your goals. You are required to set your specific and realistic goals. When you know what you want, you can plan your strategy that is required to achieve the desired health and fitness goal.

A Mom’s daily calendar is almost always overscheduled. Each day usually starts early and ends late. It may include lots of running in circles (at least it can feel that way). But, probably is lacking any real physical activity. With children returning to school, the schedule gets even tighter due to school requirements and events.

It may seem an insurmountable task to get your family into the healthy habit of regular exercise. Yet, with the disturbing recent obesity trends, it’s an extremely important habit to adopt. Studies have indicated that children are 40% less active than they were just 30 years ago. This has negative effects for kids in physical, psychological, and social areas.

So, being an active family needs to become a priority. Fortunately, it’s actually easier than you may think. With a little planning you can find ways to incorporate workouts into the time you spend with your children. Regardless of your children’s age, there’s a way to find time to workout (often even with your kids)! Here are some tips organized by age, which will add to your family time together and help to keep the whole family active!

Exercise & Fitness Equipment

Age: Infant through pre-school

Play a game of keep-away or tag.
Occupy them for even 15 minutes with a video or toy while you do some toning exercises like squats and tricep dips.
Grab your stroller and go for a brisk walk. Or, buy a jogging stroller for more flexibility. With a jogging stroller you can walk faster, jog or even run at a fast pace. And, for veteran rollerbladers, you can even use the stroller for some skating time. Don?t forget the kid helmets.
For younger children, you can use a back carrier to transport them while walking. This can burn even more calories as the extra weight makes it more challenging.
Turn on some music and dance together. Toddlers love dancing, especially when their parents join in.
Play hopscotch - yes, you will work up a sweat.
Push your kid on a swing. And, after every push complete one squat.
Use an infant carrier or bike trailer to enjoy a bike ride together.

Age: Grade School

Try rollerblading or skating together.
Spend an afternoon at a park with a playground, but don’t spend the whole time relaxing on the sidelines - join in on the fun. Spend some time swinging to help workout your legs. Try making it across the monkey bars - even just once (it’s a great upper body workout and you’ll be amazed that your kid does it with such little ease). Try some pull-ups using a bar on the playset. Do some tricep dips on a nearby park bench.
Get a small group together for a kickball or softball game.
If your child can ride a bicycle at a moderate pace, jog alongside of them.
Involve your kids while you strength train. Let them count your reps out loud for you and/or clock your rest time in-between sets.
Try a game of marble pick-up. Set up a circle (or more than one) of marbles. Compete with each other to see who can pick them up quicker following certain rules (e.g. not being able to bend from the waist but instead using a squatting technique to grab them). Adults will get an extra workout if they squat while balancing on just one foot.
On rainy days that force you inside, walk or run up and down the stairs. You might even make it a contest to see who can finish 5 complete rounds first.

Age: Teenagers

Register for a fun run (or walk) event and spend time together training for the event.
Set up an obstacle course in your back yard. Then try such things as quick sprints back and forth between two objects, hopping over a line of sticks, and running zig-zags around a line of cones.
Play tennis or basketball together.
Consider joining a community volleyball or softball team that includes enthusiasts of all ages.
Don’t just sit and cheer your kids at their sporting events. Every few minutes do some walking or jumping jacks or squats.
Learn how to do strength training exercises that require partners. There are dozens of options that work both individuals’ bodies. For example, partner squats where two people stand facing each other, grasp each other around their forearms and squat simultaneously as if sitting in a chair.
Implement a daily family walk each day before or after dinner.
Work together in the yard raking leaves, planting flowers, trimming trees.

Sure, you may have a very full plate but isn’t it time to throw out the I’m a parent - I don’t have time to workout excuse. Don’t focus on the frequency or irregularity of your workouts. Take the opportunities for physical activity when they arise. If you implement these above activities for just 30 minutes three times per week, you can easily burn an extra 450 calories or more!

Plus, working out sets a great example for your children that will teach them at an early age how important (and easy) it is to make physical fitness a part of daily life. Exercising with your kids also provides the extra bonus of spending quality time together.

Safe Tanning

Everyone loves the look of well tanned and healthy looking skin. It almost goes without saying that to change your pasty white skin to glowing, bronzed and beautiful you need to get a tan! We have all heard of the stigma that comes with suntans and tanning beds, but the purpose of this article is to help you achieve a beautiful tan in a safe way, not just by soaking up the rays at Fort Lauderdale in Florida or Ponce Inlet in Florida.

Known Dangers of Tanning:

You likely have read that when you lay out in the sun at Moka’apu in Hawaii, you are exposed to dangerous ultraviolet rays that can lead to skin cancer. The more time that you are exposed to intense sunshine, the greater the risk complications. If you don’t want to resemble an 82 year old grandpa when you’re 41, read on for must have information to getting a safe tan!

Exercise & Fitness Equipment

Best Way to Tan in the Sun:

When you are tanning in the sun, there are a few tips that will make you tan safely. In the beginning, just give yourself a little bit amount of time tanning and no more. As you have read, the more that you are exposed to ultraviolet rays, the more the risk. You definitely should not stay in the sunshine long enough to get a burn; just long enough to soak up some nice rays! Light skinned people usually must have a little bit of time in the sun before they begin to get a burn, so remember to set a timer, blondies! Never use things like butter or baby oil to accelerate your tan. These can promote painful sun burns which include blisters and even bleeding!

Best Suntan Products:

When you are shopping for suntan products, only get products that are meant for tanning. Pick up products that block the UV sun rays while still allowing you to get a tan. Another thing to do is use a special hydrating lotion before and after your tanning session so that your skin won’t dry out when you are lying on the beach. If you are getting rays at the beach, take along some sunscreen so that when your allotted tanning time is up, you can lather it on.

Sunless Tanning:

If you desire a great tan without the risk, simply choose a sunless tanning product. A good tip is to try is the spray on kind as there is {less|lower| risk of uneven coloring in some places like your knees, ankles and elbows. Start slowly as well. Rub in an amount barely enough to cover your skin. If you don’t tan dark enough, you can always add more, but it’s a huge nuisance to remove it if you turn orange or very dark!

Tanning is great and it is beautiful, but if you ignore these tanning methods, you will end up looking more like a shriveled up raisin or a lobster! Good luck on working on your suntan and always do it safely.

Never think skin cancer will never happen to you!
